Aims of the Universal Fellowship

Established in early 2025 as an independent platform for structured public reasoning on major political and institutional questions.

The word “Universal” reflects a commitment to principles and policies that apply equally to all, while respecting the diversity of views within society.

Strengthening Public Reasoning

We seek to reduce social tension by encouraging thoughtful engagement across political and social differences. Strong disagreement is expected — and welcomed — provided it is expressed respectfully.

Bridging Citizens and Policy

The Fellowship aims to narrow the growing distance between the Australian public and national policy-making by creating a space where ideas can be examined openly and carefully.

Focused, Sustained Discussion

Rather than hosting endless reactive commentary, we focus on a small number of significant issues at a time and explore them in depth. If this approach proves fruitful, local discussion groups may eventually emerge to continue conversations face to face.

Universal Fellowship is not a religious organisation. Participants may hold a wide range of beliefs — or none — and all are asked to respect the diversity of views held by others.

Universal Politics internationally

Universal politics has relevance for a whole range of international issues, such as the refugee situation, Ukraine, Gaza, Islamic politics, the US president’s actions, the EU, the trend away from the US$ and so on. We hope to establish discussions on these and set up many other topics later but we will start first with issues in Australia.
